when will we realize that walking down the streets with keys locked between our fingers like claws to feel safer is not normal. When will we realize we deserve to feel safe in our own homes and towns, and shouldn't be afraid of eye contact that lasts a little too long.
when will we stop asking her, "what were you wearing? Were you drunk?" and stop asking him, "did you like it? Why aren't you more of a man?" And stop telling them that they're lucky anyone would want them. That is not want, and it sure as hell isn't love. It's power. It's one human being forcing themselves higher on the food chain and we sympathize with them, instead of the victim, because, after all, they deserved it, right?
When will we realize that not all white people are racist just because they are born with a lighter skin tone than others. Last time I checked, grouping an ethnicity together with a negative term is racism, and when will we realize not all men are monsters just waiting to tear your heart out through your throat and eat it for breakfast, then sign their name on your pretty little body cast. When will we realize that not all heterosexuals put down homosexuals and deny them the right to be them, and when will we realize that not all Christians damn the world. The loudest of us, are not the majority of us, and more often than not the rest of us want those with the biggest mouths to shut up because they make the rest of us look bad but nobody is going to listen to the quieter voices because they can't.
When will we realize it's okay to have opinions, as long as we don't stuff them down other people's stomachs and pass around regurgitated, rotten information that doesn't even make sense anymore, when will we realize that everyone was once an innocent, bright-eyed little child and the world chewed them up and spit them out with the rest of us and instead of helping each other we laugh at their flaws and cover up our own.
When will we realize that what we see as normal is wrong?
When will people be brave to be strong and stand up for themselves without the world knocking them back down because their 'opinion' is 'offensive'?
Come on, now. That's just not fair. But, whoever said life was?
